BBC Radio 3 is proud to present an Invitation Concert at the iconic Ulster Hall, Belfast, focussing on 20th century English music.
The programme will encompass the shimmering countryside visions in Summer by Frank Bridge, the vigorous Courtly Dances from Britten’s Opera Gloriana – dedicated to Queen Elizabeth on the occasion of her Coronation – and Elgar’s Wand of Youth Suite No.2, based on the incidental music to a play written by the teenage Elgar and his siblings. The most recent of the works is by Ruth Gipps – her Cringlemire Garden, evoking the thoughts of someone sitting in the romantic landscape of a garden in the Lake District.
Rumon Gamba conducts the Ulster Orchestra.
