Ulster Orchestra - Season

Founded in 1966, the Ulster Orchestra has been at the forefront of musical life in Northern Ireland and the Orchestra’s full-time musicians form the region’s only professional symphony orchestra.

With a mission to enrich the lives of people living in Northern Ireland, those visiting, and those who encounter it through international touring and regular radio and TV broadcasts with both BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Radio 3.

The Orchestra strives for excellence in all it undertakes, be it regular concert performances, learning and community engagement programmes, or creative collaborations across the arts.

Ulster Orchestra - Rysanov Plays Schubert

Ukrainian star Maxim Rysanov play-directs a concert that – appropriately enough – starts in the heavens, 21 January 2022, in the iconic Ulster Hall. Missy Mazzoli’s Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) is based on the shape of a solar system, with musical ideas twisting and turning as they connect with each other.

Not one, but two absolute blockbusters form the core of this concert which makes its way to the Ulster Hall, 18 February 2022! Anna Clyne’s richly imaginative This Midnight Hour starts the musical journey before Fenella Humphreys features as soloist in Sibelius’s heart-breakingly beautiful Violin Concerto, which glitters with the snow of a Finnish landscape.

On 03 March 2022, favourite Irish soprano Ailish Tynan joins Jac van Steen for a programme of music inspired by love in the iconic Ulster Hall!

Debussy composed Printemps during a residency after winning the Prix de Rome, stating

"I should like to express the slow and laboured birth of beings and things in nature, their gradual blossoming, and finally the joy of being born into some new life.”
