Between the Hedges

If you look carefully whilst driving between the market towns of County Down you will frequently see home-made signs inviting you to consider God alongside informal shrines dedicated to loved ones who have died on the road. Nowhere else in the British Isles are these two expressions displayed with as much intensity and frequency.

To local people these familiar ornaments blend into the landscape and are largely passed unnoticed. However they come to life when you leave the comfort of your car, stand beside them and feel the wind, rain or sun on your skin and hear the roar of the traffic close by.
