Brilliant young pianist set to thrill at Berlin Symphony Orchestra concert
27 April 2012
The world famous Berlin Symphony Orchestra makes it Belfast Waterfront début on Tuesday 22 May.
In a programme featuring Weber’s Overture ‘Der Freischutz,’ Schumann’s Piano Concerto and Brahms’ Symphony No.1, this showpiece concert will give music lovers a chance to enjoy the amazing talents of brilliant young piano soloist, Kit Armstrong.
The concert is also a final opportunity to experience the thrill and emotion of a top world class orchestra during the Waterfront’s Classics through the Seasons International Orchestral Series.
The Berlin Symphony Orchestra has been delighting audiences for more than sixty years, augmenting and further energising its dynamic performances with today’s finest young musicians. The orchestra performs all over the world and is a regular guest at the prestigious international festivals, including the Prague Spring, Athens Festival and Budapest Spring Festival.
Twenty year old Kit Armstrong is undoubtedly one of the world’s most exciting young classical music talents on the current international scene, having already performed as guest soloist with countless world class orchestras and ensembles. He draws inspiration from his London-based mentor Alfred Brendel, who ascribes to him “an understanding of the great piano works that combines freshness and subtlety, emotion and intellect.”
Kit began studying mathematics and science as a seven year-old. He moved to London as a teenager to study at the Imperial College in London before graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2008.
By the time he was ten, the British-Taiwanese classical pianist and award-winning composer had written more than 15 classical works. His compositions include a quintet for piano and winds (premiered at The Hague International Music Festival) and a quintet for piano and strings.
