Bronagh’s Big Weekend is about a mad weekend in a mad family: think Four Weddings and a Funeral with Irish dancing and restraining orders.
“Stupidly talented... seamlessly funny.” (The List)
It draws on Helen’s own experiences of growing up in an Irish family in Oldham and tells the story of one big weekend in a teenage girl’s life: the Irish Dancing Championships... bridesmaid at our Sean’s wedding... my 13th birthday... all on one weekend.
"This is a really charming and at times poignant one woman show."
Helen O’Brien is an accomplished performer and writer. She began her career as a member of The Durham Revue comedy group before joining Off The Ground Theatre Company where she starred in many productions, including Romeo and Juliet, Wyrd Sisters, Witches Abroad and also played the lead role of Rita in Educating Rita.
Helen has performed in, and written for, sketch shows at The Edinburgh Festival, including Innocent Bystanders and Domestic Goddi. She has been part of the writing team for Sex Bombs, a new pilot for BBC Northern Ireland.
