Belfast Film Festival "must sees" at the Waterfront!
07 April 2008
Belfast Waterfront and Belfast Film Festival present extremely rare screenings of the cult classics, Aachi and Ssipak (Friday 11 April) and The Holy Mountain (Sunday 13 April) in the Waterfront Studio.
Aachi and Ssipak are ‘independent entrepreneurs’ in a future where the government wants a monopoly on the only source of energy, human faeces, in this sci-fi animation from Korea.
Joe Bum-Jin`s exciting animation film is accompanied by a Korean hardcore sound and feels like a South Park script animated by Hanna Barbera and Manga`s love child.
Pop culture references aside however this is unlike any animation you’ve ever seen. Unequalled in eye-popping visuals and foul mouth day-glow characters, this will be your only chance to see this film on the big Waterfront screen.
Though widely regarded as the benchmark for experimental films, Alejandro Jodorowsky`s The Holy Mountain remains as influential as it is unseen. With its massive sets, lavish costumes, and an enormous cast, watching this well-crafted film is an experience a viewer will never forget.
Part of The Holy Mountain`s charm is that the imagery is so random and surreal that its meaning is open to almost any interpretation. The film packs in a massive amount of stunning and bizarre images. Topics as diverse as war, sex, violence, religion and immortality are all given equal attention and carried out with great skill and beauty.
Aachi and Ssipak is for Over 15s only. Holy Mountain is Certificate 18.
